Mix #1 - anti-baby-song-baby-playlist
Last week a HA member asked “I do have a challenging one that just popped in my head. I have a 7 week old I am trying to indoctrinate him into good music so how about an anti baby song baby playlist?”…Challenge accepted!
Given it’s for a baby, I kept it mainly non-electronic…don’t want to scare the baby off from techno too soon. When putting together the playlist, I added artists that are pretty widely liked & that you’d find headlining festivals - Arcade Fire, Foals, Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem, The Strokes. I had to of course add some powerful female vocalists - Florence, Brittany Howard, Karen O. I also included remixes/remakes of classics to give nod to some oldies - Marvin Gay x Flight Facilities, Harvest Moon by Poolside, Nina Simone x Sofi Tukker, Diana Ross x Purple Disco. And sprinkled some producers/djs that are a good gateway into the electronic scene in case baby goes that route - Bonobo, Caribou, Moby, Disclosure.
Based on the artists selected, I have categorized this under the 2 series which are mixes I recommend for daytime listening - with or without a baby :)
This one will pull at your heart strings a bit - either in a pensive way or could be the soundtrack to a much needed cry. Hence why I called the mix “Pisces Tears”…if you get it, you get it. I can’t speak to the lyrics of these songs but some of these songs vocally and sound-wise are just so beautiful really.
This mix will kick off the 3 series which are mixes best suited for the evening.
Archive Mix - Lora’s Bat Mitzvah Mixtape
It was my little bro’s Bar Mitzvah this weekend so it’s only fitting that we go back 20 years to my Bat Mitzvah. My theme was (obviously) music. Each table was a different band, with my friends’ tables being bands I listened to on repeat (think Blink 182, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and adults’ tables being (actually good) music they listened to (The Doors, Creedence Clearwater Revival). As the party favor, I handed out an actual physical mixed CD that you could play in your boom box or walkman. So for this week’s archive mix, I’ll be re-surfacing that hidden gem.
