electropop, indie rock, instrumental, post-punk rock, blues rock, indie folk, electronic, pianotronica, indie pop, afro house, indie...see what artists made the list!
I am still figuring out what’s next for Music Club in 2025 and what newsletters will look like but wanted to pop back online to share my favorite albums from last year :) At the end, I also share a playlist featuring 3 songs from each.
Lmk if we had any overlaps and/or what albums made your list!
💖 FAV ALBUMS OF 2024 (in alphabetical order)
Charli xcx - BRAT | electropop
I’m not much of a pop girlie but like how Dua Lipa won me over in 2020 with Future Nostalgia, Charli xcx lures you in with her pop bangers and keeps you hooked with the breadth of pop from ballads (I think about it all the time) to heavy hitters (365).
Friko - Where we’ve been, Where we go from here | indie rock
This debut album from Chicago duo came recommended from and will teleport you back to the emotive 2000s indie rock era (Wilco, Death Cab, etc).
Hermanos Gutierrez - Sonido Cosmico | instrumental
Ecuadorian-Swiss brothers evoke sensual and spiritual yumminess to your ears in their 6th album (2nd one produced by Black Keys member Dan Auerbach).
IDLES - TANGK | post-punk rock
The Bristol band enlisted Nigel Godrich (who has produced and worked with Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Air & more) to craft a softer melodic side to their usual punk sound.
Jack White - No Name | blues rock
Originally handed out for free in an unmarked vinyl sleeve to customers at his record shop in July, this surprise album reminds us of why he’s one of the greatest rock artists of our time.
Jackie West - Close To The Mystery | indie folk
Described as “retro country lounge” by fellow music newsletter Dinner Music by , Brooklyn based singer songwriter lures you in and puts you at ease with her dreamy sound.
Jamie XX - In Waves | electronic
10 years after his magical debut album, Jamie wows us again…as expected…in this cohesive dance floor album.
Limina - Coming Home | instrumental
LA based film composer Tyler Durham recorded his debut album in London with members of the Philharmonia Orchestra and was inspired by his time on the London Underground he spent reflecting about what others were thinking about. It’s a wonderful and cinematic album that I discovered on this playlist curated by music supervision company Major Major.
Local Natives - But I’ll Wait For You | indie rock
Although slower than their usual music, it makes for a very relaxing listen.
LP Giobbi - Dotr | piano-tronica
Highly recommend watching a video of classically trained jazz pianist turned DJ & producer perform as she is so full of energy and positivity. Featuring lots of special guests, this album was inspired by her upbringing and fully embodies the piano-tronica sound she’s known for.
Nala Sinephro - Endlessness | instrumental
London based musician will take you on a meditative journey with her ambient experimental jazz featuring the harp and synth (also discovered on Major Major’s playlist).
Parlor Greens - In Green We Dream | instrumental
If you haven’t caught on by now, I’ve been in a big instrumental phase the 2nd half of 2024 and continuing with this soul funk trio (also recommended by Dinner Music) consisting of guitar, drums & organ. Listening to their album makes you feel like you’re sitting in on one of their studio jam sessions.
Soweto Gospel Choir & Groove Terminator - History of House | afrohouse
South Africa's Soweto Gospel Choir & Australian electronic artist Groove Terminator perform house music classics. It’s a treat to the ears!
Suki Waterhouse - Memoir of a Sparklemuffin | indie pop
Fun, catchy and an easy listen!
The Marias - Submarine | indie pop
Vocalist Maria and drummer/producer Josh hash out their breakup in this dreamy-pop album.
This Is Lorelei - Box for Buddy, Box for Star | indie
Like with Friko’s album shared above, listening to this (new to me) artist reminded me of the bands I listened to in High School in the 2000s indie rock era.
Listen to a little of each album! I’ve selected 3 songs from each album
Music Club’s fav albums of 2023 - revisit the list here
so many good ones here!!
Oooh I love finding new music, thanks for sharing! IDLES was on my list, also saw them live...they were great! Amyl and The Sniffers released Cartoon Darkness...so good. Drop 7 by Little Simz sounded different from her other recent stuff and I'm into it. Doechii's new album is great too, been listening on repeat.
