On Repeat this October
Self-proclaimed all-around life-long music enthusiast Jamie Eglowstein shares 5 songs she's had on-repeat this month 🎵 New “Song of the Day” series inspired by yesterday's mood ✨
The last special guest I featured was back in April so very excited to be spotlighting a new member in this week’s newsletter - Jamie! I met Jamie a few times over the past year when attending Venice Photo Club’s Thursday morning coffee mixers for local creatives. I recently ran into her again last month and briefly mentioned I write a music newsletter. She immediately responded enthusiastically about how she loves to write about music, so thought she would be a perfect person for Music Club.
For those that have joined since April, I have all the special guest newsletters available here. Special guests have ranged from DJs & producers to folks that work at Goldenvoice, Amazon Music + DISCO. If you’re interested in being featured, respond to this email and let’s talk!
Music Club Takeover feat Jamie Eglowstein - 5 Songs On Repeat in October
About Jamie: As a therapist she has always felt that music connects us to all parts of ourselves, and naturally helps us to process many of life’s circumstances. Her taste in music has typically leaned toward the indie/alternative scene, but she’s picked up a deep love for folk music as a reminder of where she’s from (North Carolina). She now resides in Los Angeles, but says her taste has morphed and changed because of the places she’s lived in, including England and New York City.
These songs have also been added to Music Club Moods (previously Human Algorithm Mix). Music Club Moods gets updated with every new playlist.
“So Free So Lonely,” Georgia Gets By (2023)
From the second the steel guitar opens the song, it’s clear that this piece is a perfect mix of light folk with a sad girl appeal. Georgia Nott, also known as half of the electronic pop band ‘BROODS’ comes in with her very clear and yet airy voice. She fills the first verse in a captivating style, while the rest of the track ever so slightly builds up to each chorus’ crescendo. As we enter the second verse, the energy dips back down again, but there’s an additional excitement that’s been incorporated. The song continues to build until it sort of *explodes* into the most beautiful melody I’ve potentially ever heard, depicted by instrumentals only (starting at about 2:00). This sweet escape allows the listener to be immersed in a field in the middle of the most beautiful day, no worries or cares in the world. This song transports you into time, thought, and space – and that’s why it’s on this month’s list!
“Kiss City,” Blondshell (2023)
Blondshell’s very own Sabrina Mae Teitelbaum introduces “Kiss City” by immediately hitting everyone’s sexual nerve – ow owww! The low-key down-beat of the drums in the background support Teitelbaum as she eloquently describes what it’s like to make love in a way that makes her feel the kinkiest – which turns out to really just be a description of romance. Relatable, right? About halfway through the song, in an unexpected turn of events the singer amps it up and turns the once relaxed vibe into more of a rock anthem beginning at 1:25. Teitelbaum’s emphasized vocals that border on more of a yell closes out the song just in time for you to want more.
“My Body ft Your Lips,” The Beaches, Beach Weather (2023)
I love a good collaboration, especially when both bands have the word ‘beach’ in them. The combo of two ‘who-can-care-less’ groups is perfect for the epitome of the song; hot sex with no strings attached. ‘The Beaches’ enter on the first verse with their iconic alt-sound, mixed with fantastic background vocals. The lyrics are dirty and real, which falls right in line with the messaging. When Nick Santino of ‘Beach Weather’ (heart-throb) comes in donning his seductive tone that perfectly complements the song as well as the vocals provided by ‘The Beaches’ – it’s clear that it’s time to roll the windows down, and enjoy. Perhaps light up a cigarette and text that ex you’ve been thinking about.
“Diet Pepsi,” Addison Rae (2024)
Here’s the thing – if I’m going to write an honest music review based on what I’ve been playing to death recently, I’m going to include miss Addison Rae. Was I in denial at first that this song is a certified banger? Yes. Does that make me cool? No. Let the girlies do what they want, and what they’ll bring you is THIS. Some of the lyrics are juvenile yes, and some of the verses are not the most awe-inspiring, BUT BUT BUT: the chorus of this song absolutely re-wires my brain in a way that most songs don’t. The backing instrumentals when she starts singing “when we drive in your car, I’m your baby” give me the serotonin boost to literally take over the world. At 1:48 when she’s moreso ad-libbing? Inject it into my veins. Now I will say, I’ve always thought the transition into the key change at the end is a little abrupt. That being said, I’m not sure what would have made it make more sense, but I’m honestly just pumped that there’s more of the song. Thanks Addison!
“Wreckage,” Pearl Jam (2024)
Here’s another thing – putting Pearl Jam on my top tracks this month was truly not on my bingo card. Nothing against them, I’m just not typically a classic rock kind of gal. I realize that this is a brand-new PJ song and therefore, may conjure up some debate between old fans and “new” fans, but you can’t deny that this song brings you to a good place. Everything about the guitar’s melody in the background, added with the twang of some southern flare is just a recipe for feeling good. I especially love the very end after 3:18 where it’s mostly just the closing of the song, but it’s CINEMATIC. Big feelings. That’s what I look for when I’m driving with the windows down. You’re living in YOUR own movie boss, so why not give it an incredible soundtrack? Then again at 3:55 there’s even MORE of a finale. I imagine fireworks on a lake. Imagine it with me.

This month I have been focusing my efforts on handing out coffee samples in Venice. From dog parks to weekend soccer games to yoga classes, I’ve handed out 122 samples and sold 17 bags. It’s been a great way to introduce new people to the coffee and push myself outside of my comfort zone.
I will continue to pop-up in new places but will also be working on getting it sold in local stores in my area. Stay tuned to see which store is the 1st place to carry it!
